A World Wide Web Resource Discovery System

چکیده
As the WWW grows at an increasing rate, eeorts to make the technology more manageable are highly in demand. Applying advanced information retrieval techniques is one approach to such eeorts. Despite the potential beneet of these techniques in reducing users information overload and improving the eeectiveness access to on-line information, little research has been done on applying them to WWW environment. In this paper we present our attempt to apply the vector space retrieval model, relevance feedback mechanisms and a hypertext mapping technique as an integrated resource discovery system to the WWW. This paper discusses some design issues involved, as well as practical issues such as retrieval eeectiveness, usability and scalability.

The enormous growth of the World Wide Web in recent years has made it necessary to perform resource discovery efficiently. For a crawler it is not an simple task to download the domain specific web pages. This unfocused approach often shows undesired results. Therefore, several new ideas have been proposed, among them a key technique is focused crawling which is able to crawl particular topical...

Resource discovery is one of the most important underpinning problems behind producing a scalable, robust and efficient global infrastructure for e-Science. A number of approaches to the resource discovery and management problem have been made in various computational grid environments and prototypes over the last decade. Computational resources and services in modern grid and cloud environment...
متن کاملDistributed resource discovery using a content-sensitive infrastructure
Distributed Resource Discovery in a World Wide Web environment using full-text indices will never scale. The distinct properties of WWW information (volume, rate of change, topical diversity) limits the scaleability of traditional approaches to distributed Resource Discovery. An approach combining metadata clustering and query routing can, on the other hand, be proven to scale much better. This...
